The Story of Fraser

The Story of Fraser was presented at the CRISP Nursing Conference in 2007 by Meg Seow. It gives a thorough overview of vein of Galen malformation and an insight to one family’s experience.

Meg Seow is a staff nurse in the Radiology Department in Auckland City Hospital. She has been involved with most of the vein of Galen cases in New Zealand to date and through her work and her own personal reading of medical journals about the condition she has developed an in-depth understanding about this condition. (Click here to find out more about Meg.)

The intent of this presentation was to provide medical professionals with a greater knowledge of vein of Galen, its treatment and how it affects the lives of families who have a child with the condition. Due to the rarity of the condition, in-depth professional knowledge to date has been limited.

Meg’s hope is that through this presentation more professionals will become aware of the condition which will then enable better outcomes for children and families. She also hopes to convey the importance of “treating” the whole family unit in these circumstances and the impact that professionals can make on families.
